Household Expenses – Tips to Save Money

Saving money on household expenses can be easy, if you know where to look for the savings and you follow these very simple tips…First, stop trying to keep up with the family next door…You don’t pay their bills, so what makes you think they are going to pay yours.  If they are going into debt, let them go alone.

Look through all those things you have in the back of your closets and/or in boxes in the basement.  you might just find that you have a lot ‘new’ things that you’d forgotten about.

Treat everything you have as if it were brand new.  You know when first get that new dress or appliance, you do what the label/warranty tells you to do because it is new and you want to keep it that way.  Even after 2, 5 or more years, if you have continued to treat your stuff as if it were new, then you won’t have to replace it as often.

Checking the labels on your food and using it before it goes bad is another way to cut your household expenses.  If you’ve purchased something once and didn’t use it, why should you purchase it again…you are just wasting your money.

Use reusable items.  We have a world of throw aways, don’t add to the trash.  Cloth napkins can be washed with your towels, etc. which means you only have to purchase it once…and that means you saves money.

Become a DIY’er…There is so much information in books and on the internet on how to fix and/or build something that doing it yourself should be easy.  Try it…start small and gain confidence.  Before you know it, you might just be putting a deck on your house or remodeling your bathroom.

Recycle everything and anything that you can.  Most recycling centers will take soda cans and glass bottles and you might even get paid something for returning them.

Don’t spend a lot of money on expensive chemicals to clean your house.  Baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice can clean your house just as good as any household cleaner you can buy in the store and you won’t be exposing yourself and your family to harsh chemicals.

Reuse items.  Seasoning jars can be used to hold glitter for crafts or mix your own spices and store them in an old seasoning jar.  Melt down any old candles you have and make new ones.  Save all the old pieces of soap and put them in a new clean sock and use it as a wash cloth.  Just think about how you can use something again before throwing it away.
