Did you know you can save money when it comes to your refrigerator? Here are a few simple ways to save.
- Save up to 25% by checking the temperature in your refrigerator. Make sure it is set between 38′ to 40 and that the freezer is set between 0′ to 5”.
- Keep the coils on your refrigerator cleaned. This is usually something that is very easy to do, but many people don’t take the time to do it. Follow your manufacturer’s instructions on how and how often to do this.
- Check the gaskets around the door of the refrigerator and the freezer for tears and damage. The gaskets can be damaged from spills, so make sure you clean up any spills as soon as they happen. The gaskets have folds that need to be cleaned and this can be done with just soap and water. If there is any damage to your gaskets, you will want to replace them. Damaged gaskets can cause cool air to leak out which can make your refrigerator run more and cost you more money.
- Another way to save money with your refrigerator is to make sure it has the right amount of food and drinks in it. Too little and your refrigerator will have to run constantly to keep the items cool. If you have too much, then the vents will have to overwork themselves to breathe.
- Arrange your kitchen so that your refrigerator is away from your stove. The heat from the stove when you are cooking can cause the refrigerator to feel hot and make it run to stay cool. If they are beside each other and you can’t rearrange them, then find someway to insulate the area between them.
- Did you know that newer refrigerators come with an ‘energy saver’ mode? Check to see if yours does and use it.
- If your refrigerator is not an automatic defrost kind, then you will want to make sure you defrost your refrigerator often. If the ice is 1/4 inch thick or more, then you are wasting money.
- Every time you open the refrigerator door, you are depositing money into your electric company’s account. They make enough money, don’t give them more. Know what you want before you open the door.
- Have you ever put a tea pitcher, with no lid, in the refrigerator? When you do this, your refrigerator feels like it has get rid of the humidity.
- And the last thing you can do to save money is buy a new refrigerator. The new energy efficient refrigerators are made to save you money, and there are tax breaks for buying them.
