Senior Citizens – Save Money

Everyone wants to save money, but when you are a senior citizen, you need as much money as you can get.  Your fixed income doesn’t go as far as some might think.  Most people have heard of AARP, American Association of Retired Persons.  This is a group that helps look out for the best interest of Seniors.  There is a minimal charge to join and they can help  save a lot of money through their many discounts and programs.

A lot of banks are finally getting on board with helping senior citizens save money.  They are starting to offer free checks and accounts with no monthly fees.  If your bank does not offer senior discounts, then check around.  There are a lot of banks out there and they all want your business.

Flying and overnight stays can be expensive, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up traveling.  There are a lot of companies that offer inexpensive day trips.  You go with a group, which keeps the cost low and can makes for safer trips.  Check with your local Parks and Recreation Department to see if they have any traveling programs.

If you don’t like the thought of being on someone else’s time schedule, then traveling after season might be a better way to go.  Places won’t be as crowded and things are usually cheaper, such as hotel rooms, etc.

Check with your local Extension offices, Department of Social Services, Area on Aging, etc. in your area to see what discounts you can get as a Senior Citizen.  You might just be surprised at what you find.
